Train operator Southeastern is warning plunging temperatures and ice is likely to hit rail services in and out of Kent tomorrow as commuters return to work after heavy snow.

Southeastern says cancellations and delays tomorrow are “very likely” but say they are doing all possible to ease the issues.

Meanwhile, due to restrictions on services today, Southeastern says high-speed services can be used at no extra cost to ease congestion and delays.

A spokesman for Southeastern said this afternoon: “We’re working with Network Rail to keep the railway lines free of ice and snow and, where possible, keep train services running. But with several inches of snow in some places there will be disruption and cancelled services.

“Mainline ticket holders can use high speed services at no additional cost today.

“Due to the poor condition of the roads there will be no engineering work replacement bus services between Ramsgate and Minster or Ramsgate and Broadstairs.

“It’s expected that temperatures will drop this afternoon and overnight to below-zero creating icy conditions with frozen snow and slush. While we’ll be working hard to run a normal timetable service tomorrow - it’s very likely that there will be cancellations, and delays due to weather conditions and problems caused by ice.

“These low temperatures are set to continue for several days. Please take care when travelling and allow additional time for your journeys.”
