Maidstone United boss Peter Nott is targeting another new signing, following the club’s 0-0 draw against Sutton United on Saturday.
The Stones helped their bid to avoid relegation with a goalless draw against play-off hopefuls Sutton, despite being hampered by new signing Chris Saunders seeing red with half an hour remaining.
The new Stones manager made three new signings on the eve of Saturday’s game, with striker Alex Tiesse rejoining the club, midfielder Saunders joining from Welling United and striker Charlie Stimson joining on work experience from Gillingham.
All three new signings featured in the squad on Saturday, which saw Maidstone forced to hang on for long spells following Saunders’ red card. Goalkeeper Andy Walker was forced to make a string of smart saves to deny Sutton and earn Maidstone a point.
Nott was pleased with a point, but revealed he is hoping to add another new face to the squad for the crucial run-in.
He said: “The new signings have definitely helped us improve the numbers and add much more competition for places. There is another player we are looking at to bring it, but it isn’t proving as easy as first thought. We hope to have news on that this week.
“With Chris (Saunders) he will give us much more bite in the midfield and he was unlucky to get a red card in his first game. He has not had many games while he was at Welling so there will be more to come from him. We have been looking for a lively forward and Alex (Tiesse) will certainly give us that option. Charlie (Stimson) is still learning to adapt to this level of the game but he has shown some nice touches so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring to us.”
Despite picking up four points from their last two games, the Stones have dropped down a place in the table, but are four points above the relegation zone. With 11 games of the season remaining, Nott is unsure how many his side need to win to beat the drop.
He said: “People are asking me how many wins I think we need, but to be honest I don’t know. This league is so tight it’s really difficult to say. We managed to pick up a point and moved down one place in the league table. All we have got to do is make sure we keep getting the points.”
