Midfielder Craig Stone has spoken of his gratitude after being offered a chance to rebuild his football career at Maidstone United.
The 21-year-old central midfielder joined the Stones after a year out of the game following a broken leg sustained in an FA Trophy game for Ebbsfleet United 13 months ago.
Stone, a former Gillingham player, began his football career at Maidstone United in the youth ranks and is glad of the opportunity to help the club avoid relegation and aid his recovery.
The midfielder has already played five games for club after joining on a game-by-game basis. Despite his injury problems of last year, Stone is confident he can make a full recovery while at the club.
He said: “I’m starting to feel good about how things are going. There is more to come from me and I’m easing myself back into football. I’ve known Peter Nott (Stones boss) a very long time so to get the chance to come back to Maidstone is great. It’s a club I’ve always looked out for so I’m hoping I can help them out and help my recovery.
“It’s the worst thing as a player sitting on the sidelines. My target is and will always be to try and play at the highest level possible. I will have that target until someone comes and tells me that I’m too old or that I’ve had my chance.”
The Stones are in action tonight (Tuesday) night at home to Ryman Premier League leaders Dartford.
